The membrane is the heart of an RO purifier and the most expensive consumable in it, so it should only be replaced when testing shows it is required.
A membrane rarely fails suddenly. It usually degrades, and the symptoms build up over weeks.
Membranes are damaged by chlorine, by heavy sediment loading and by running the unit with exhausted pre-filters. In parts of Kanpur with hard or high-TDS borewell supply, scaling shortens membrane life further.
This is why we check the pre-filters and input pressure at the same visit. Replacing a membrane while leaving choked pre-filters in place simply repeats the failure.
We record input and output TDS, open the membrane housing, inspect the old element, fit a membrane of the correct rating for your unit and supply, flush the system as required, and then re-measure TDS and flow so you can see the difference on the meter.
